10 Oct How I started skit making
How Peter Trailblazer started making skits.
While I was on campus at Obafemi Awolowo university, IleIfe, I had a great encounter with film makers like Tunde Kelani, Mike Bamiloye and Femi Branch. They all impacted me in areas like professional film making, inspirational acting, and theatrical acting respectively. That was year 2010. At this time, skit making was not in vogue. We only short 15 seconds of video from the likes of Craze clown and Ade, and the likes of Bovi and Basket mouth also with their 30seconds short comedy clip. So I realised this is a new field that has not yet been fully explored like we have today. I discovered making skit was quite cheaper as compared with making full length feature films. I then started making my skits with phone and I will edit myself and post.
So in 2015, I started a funny series on Life Partner. I partnered with an eatery in school then (forks n fingers) to be airing the videos daily as customers come to buy food. To my surprise, the first week this started, things blew out positively and my videos went viral on the whole campus. People kept coming to me to continue. Gaining acceptance and traction at that early moment without a big media strategy/PR was a great motivation for me to pursue skit making.
